Lincoln Highway

Oct 20th

Left Utah and onto Nevada via the Lincoln Highway, 250 miles, most of the journey was across salt plains and vast empty prairies, you could see in each direction for miles and miles and miles!!! No houses or even cows!!

We stopped at Bonneville Flats ...

"Imagine a place so flat you seem to see the curvature of the planet, so barren not even the simplest life forms can exist. Imagine the passing thunder of strange vehicles hurtling by on a vast dazzling white plain. This is not an alien world far from earth; it is Utah's famous Bonneville Salt Flats."

Where world land speed records are set - see pic on board......

We have seen many beautiful sights, and scenery, but we were totally unprepared for the beauty we saw today, didn't even realise we would be crossing Bonneville Salt Flats!!!

Staying in Ely in the Historic Nevada Hotel, built in 1929 our room is behind the pickaxe of the silver miner on the side of the building!!!!

It is also a casino and gambling hall...

More pics of us than usual - we nabbed a couple to take pics of us as the views were sooooo lovely....

Tomorrow we start the Loneliest Road in America - HWY50 we have our 'Survival Guide' and when we have it stamped throughout the journey we receive -

'A Highway 50 Survivor certificate and souvenir to commemorate the journey'.........
