Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park is located in the western United States. It spans 3,472 square miles (8,987 square km). Ninety-six percent of the park is located in the state of Wyoming, another three percent is in Montana, and one percent is in Idaho. For our English readers that is the combined area of Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. A rather LARGE PARK!!!!!

Established in 1872, Yellowstone National Park is America's first national park. Located in Wyoming, Montana and Idaho, it is home to a large variety of wildlife including grizzly bears, wolves, bison, and elk. Preserved within Yellowstone National Park are Old Faithful and a collection of the world's most extraordinary geysers and hot springs, and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.

Yellowstone Lake is one of the largest high-altitude lakes in North America and is centered over theYellowstone Caldera, the largest supervolcano on the continent. The caldera is considered an active volcano. It has erupted with tremendous force several times in the last two million years. Half of the world's geothermal features are in Yellowstone, fueled by this ongoing volcanism. Lava flows and rocks from volcanic eruptions cover most of the land area of Yellowstone.
